Obituary of Rodney Thysell
Rodney was born in The Dalles and grew up in the Columbia River Gorge. On Sunday, May 15, 1973 he was baptized into the family of God. He graduated from Lyle High School in 1988 then went on to further his education at Eastern Washington University. At Eastern, Rodney earned his Bachelor of Science degree in biology and as a stream specialist, graduating in 2002. Rodney worked as a biologist for the Washington State Department of Ecology and as the natural resources director for the Hoh Tribe.
Rodney loved the outdoors. He liked hiking and camping, fishing and hunting, picking mushrooms and taking pictures of the mountains and wildlife. He also enjoyed traveling, visiting the coast, the Grand Canyon, Washington D.C., Canada, Florida and Maui.
He enjoyed debating politics with his dad, his uncles, or anyone who would listen! Rodney loved music and liked to play "What's that Song?" because he always knew. He also loved classic cars. Rodney was very smart and liked to learn new things—he knew a little something about nearly everything.
Rodney loved his friends and family. His kids brought him a lot of joy and he was a very good father. He loved his niece and nephew and was always interested in whatever they were doing. Rodney cared deeply about others and wanted them to be happy, even at his own expense.
Rodney A. Thysell, Jr. will be greatly missed by his children Darrin, Dawson, Danica and Devon; his parents Vernie, Rod and Mary Jane; sisters Kailey and Searra; step-siblings Mary Jo and John; and grandchild Marceline.
