Obituary of David Hanna

David Hanna passed away at the age of 72 on June 24th, 2021. He was born to Willard and Alice Hanna on December 26th, 1948 in Traverse City, Michigan. There he grew up working on his family's cherry orchard and alongside his father learning mechanics in his machine shop. This training would later lead Dave to building and racing hot rods with his own son. After high school, Dave moved to Chicago, Illinois, married his wife Esther and as a couple they enjoyed 54 years of adventures together. Dave spent four years in an electrical apprenticeship program in Chicago before he, Esther, and their daughter Ruth relocated to the Panama Canal Zone in 1973. There he worked as an electrician and discovered the exciting hobby of scuba diving. Three years later and one child more, the family was called to the Pacific Northwest. Dave accepted a job at the John Day Dam on the Columbia River and they happened upon the small community of Goldendale. Although the setting was quiet and simple, Dave practiced many skills and did amazing things that were always "big". The untamed woods attracted him and there he determined to build a log home on 48 acres of remote land north of town, a special place that would remain a legacy for generations to come. The Hannas settled and Dave continued to lead a life full of daring dreams and extraordinary accomplishments. Dave built many incredible structures on his property that displayed his passion for inventing, building, modifying, repairing and tinkering. He had several different interests (some including logging, mechanics, alternative power units and machinery) all backed by a can-do spirit-absent of fear, and that never gave up. Some of the favorite memories the family holds dear are those of spending time together horse-back riding, raising animals, building barns, vacationing, road trips, camping, playing games, working on various projects, and making music. Dave was a gifted musician with a beautiful voice. He sang in the choir at church, played guitar, and through music expressed his deepest feelings and praise. Dave studied the bible often, pursuing God no matter how he felt. He wanted to share the way he understood God and scripture with anyone he could. Unfortunately Dave endured much physical suffering in his journey through the years, but was helped by his devoted wife, supportive friends and a solid faith. His children and grandchildren were a comfort and joy to his heart. Dave's honesty, leadership, vision, humor, care, openness and love blessed many lives and was exemplified in how all he left behind was to be for his family. A wonderful and interesting man, Dave will be remembered fondly and celebrated for the gift he was to the world. Psalm 139:14 Dave is preceded in death by his parents Willard and Alice Hanna and his brothers, Ken and John Hanna. Dave is survived by his wife Esther of Goldendale, his daughter Ruth (Andy) Hunt of Lake Stevens, WA, his son David (Kristy) Hanna of Goldendale, his daughter Meagen (Chad) Moody of Goldendale, brothers Ed and Tom Hanna and sister Pat Hermel all of Traverse City, Michigan and many nieces and nephews. Dave loved being Grandpa to his eight grandchildren, Grace, Winston, and Emma Hunt; Tim, John and Linzy Hanna; and Traverse, Monterrey, and new baby (Nov. 2021) Moody. Dave will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. Revelation 21
