Obituary of Elaine Vivienne Kubler
Please share a memory of Elaine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Long time Goldendale resident Elaine Vivienne McClure Kubler passed on peacefully in The Dalles, Oregon on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at the age of 90. She was born on March 17, 1931 to Blanche Draper McClure and John McClure in San Diego, California as the youngest of five children. She graduated from Chula Vista High School in 1948 and attended San Diego State University with the goal of becoming a Physical Education teacher. It was at SDSU that she met the love of her life, Howard Kubler. They married on July 7, 1950, thus beginning their 59 year love affair.
The two of them started their lives together by moving to Oregon for Howard to attend OHSU’s dental school. They lived in Eugene, Portland, Salem and Springfield, both expanding their family and making lifelong friends along the way. They settled in Goldendale in 1971, where Howard opened his dental office and it was there they spent their remaining years. Elaine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and always said that her four children were her greatest blessing. She delighted in having her children and grandchildren gather at her house for the holidays, and went out of her way to make everyone feel welcome. She always had a story to tell about each of her children's childhoods and she was never shy about correcting your grammar!
Elaine was an active member of the Goldendale Seventh Day Adventist Church and served in many different ways, including fundraising and Christmas Caroling during the holiday season. She was generous and always sought to help others and make sure they were comfortable. Elaine would often preach the gospel and use it as a way to brighten the lives of others. Elaine will be remembered by those who knew best: a woman of grace and dignity, of deep and abiding faith, and an example to her children and grandchildren. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
“She has slipped the surly bonds of Earth and touched the face of God.”
Elaine is survived by her sister Jean Taylor of Chula Vista, CA, her four children; Kathy Berg (Duane) of Goldendale, Bruce Kubler (Janine Sarti) of Leesburg, GA, Jeff Kubler (Margaret) of Adair Village, OR and Mary Ellen Picha (Russ) of Puyallup, WA, 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the Goldendale Seventh Day Adventist church or the charity of your choice.
