
Obituary of Gerald Leslie Maddux

Gerald Leslie Maddux, also known as “Bud”, passed away September 15, 2021. He was born in Hood River Oregon, August 31, 1931.
Bud lived his entire life in Skamania County except for the past 6 years where he resided in Washougal, WA with his wife of 65 years. After graduating High School, he went to work at Cascade Locks Lumber mill as an Industrial Tractor Operator, he then later was drafted into the Army where he served his time in Germany. He came back to his hometown and met the love of his life Lola, where they lived and raised their family. Bud worked for Avery Schalhime as a Carpenter, then later went on to delivering oil for Irv Sterns, later he went to work for Skamania County in Building Maintenance for over 20 years where he retired in September 1992. He made many friends in the community, Bud was a volunteer fireman with Carson Fire Department and was in charge of the Home Valley Water Treatment Plant for many years. Bud was also responsible for spearheading the phone system in Home Valley.
Bud, had accomplished many things in his lifetime, he was a hard worker, great provider, he loved doing carpentry work also cooking, working outdoors, gardening, fishing, hunting, and good ol’ country music, he had a passion for the weather and was our family Meteorologist, he used to send in weekly weather reports to the Columbian for many years. He had a great sense of humor, he had nick names for all of us kids that we grew up with and he enjoyed socializing with people. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bud is survived by his wife Lola of Washougal, Daughter, Karen Jorgensen (Bob Jorgensen) of Home Valley, Susan Kurth (Ralph Kurth), Melissa Rhodes (Monty Rhodes), son Michael Maddux all from Washougal also 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, also Bud’s sisters Carol Hodgeson and Barbara Morby.
Bud is proceeded in death by his parents Isadore and Viola Maddux, sister Betty Adams, brother Ted Maddux and granddaughter Stephanie Jorgensen.
A Celebration of Life will be held for family and close friends at the Home Valley Park October 2, 2021 at 2:00 pm.
