Obituary of Nellie J. Casteel

b. January, 1947 d. April,2022 after a long recuperation from a successful surgery and had expected to return home In a couple of months. She was born at St. Joseph Hospital in La Grande, Oregon to Dr. Wallace and Nellie B. Rockwell. She graduated from La Grande High School and spent about 10 years in Ft. Collins, Colorado working at a hospital there before returning to La Grande. She worked for insurance companies, K-100 and KCMB radio stations and part time at La Grande Bible. Before retiring she worked as an office manager for Habitat for Humanity and also for another Christian Bookstore. In 1998 she married Jim Casteel at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Union, Oregon. She made many friends wherever she lived and especially liked living in this area. Enjoyed growing flowers and being outside and visiting with people. When she could-loved traveling to the Oregon Coast, Montana, Idaho, and Canada. She loved going to Warminster England to be with friends she had known for decades. She was a member of New Life in Goldendale. Always kind, loving, concerned for others, and optimistic she will be greatly missed by all who loved her. She is survived by her husband Jim, sons Erik and Paul and their families. Anyone wishing to honor her memory can make a donation to De La Salle Blackfeet School in Browning, Montana ( or P O Box 1489, Browning, MT 59417. She was a long time supporter of this school and pleased at the success rate of its graduates. A memorial service will be held at Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel in Goldendale on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 1 p.m..
