
Obituary of Elmer Pete Heming

Elmer James Heming "Pete", "Poppy" was called home to our Heavenly Father on July 15, 2022,
surrounded by his family that loved him dearly.
Pete was a beloved Son, Brother,Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Uncle, and friend.
Pete was born in Hamill, South Dakota on August 6, 1926 to Joseph and Silvia Heming. He spent his
childhood on the family farm in Winner South Dakota. One of his favorite pastimes was sharing his
childhood stories with friends and family, like fishing in the cat hole at night.
The Family left the farm and moved to Toppenish, WA for "Greener Grass" in 1938. Pete attended
Toppenish High School, following High School he enlisted in the US Air Force as a Telephone/Telegraph
Repairman. He separated from the Air Force with Honorable discharge on January 7, 1947
Following his discharge Pete met his loving wife and best friend of 73 years, Joan Green. They resided in
Wapato, WA while Pete attended Perry Trade Technical Institute and completed the Electrical Program.
His class was the first graduating class in 1950.
Pete and Joan moved to Goldendale, WA following his graduation for first Electrical job with Knights
Electric, constructing the power lines along Toppenish Flats. He joined the IBEW International
Brotherhood of Electrical workers and was a member of this union for 71 years. Pete worked as an
Electrician on the Dams up and down the Columbia River during the Hydroelectric Development. After
the Hydroelectric boom, Pete did residential and commercial electrical work all over Klickitat County.
He was a handyman, jack of all trades, and could fix anything that needed fixin, if he didn't have the
part... well he'd make it, and he became quite famous for his talent.
Pete cherished his family dearly and was a great example of love, a kind hearted, loving man. He wanted
everyone to have a little happiness in their life and would do anything in his power to make this
happen. He loved family dinners, Joans roast and noodles, and listening to her play the piano, loved his
Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren as they were the light of his life, he followed his kids and
grandkids supporting whatever interests they were involved in and was always their number one fan!
Pete loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, riding motorcycles, water skiing, camping, family picnics,
driving along the backroads of Klickitat County, and he couldn't pass by a fruit stand in the Yakima Valley
without stopping.
Pete attended Assembly of God church and loved his church family dearly.
Pete is survived, by his Wife Joan of 73 years, brother Ed Heming- Tonasket WA, daughter Pamela
Jamison, Spokane WA, , Son Tim Heming- Goldendale, Grandchildren, Daughter in Law- Patti Bowcutt
Roosevelt WA, Seagrin Von Ronson, Spokane WA, Heather (Justin) Beierle- Goldendale WA, Keesy
(Michelle) Timmer-Nashville, TN, Holly (Travis) Heilman- Goldendale WA, and Brandie Bennett of Oregon
City, OR. Great Grandchildren, Ava and River VonRonson, Hadlee Beierle, Paisley Hill, Huxley and
Sawyer Bennett, baby Elmer James Timmer and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pete is preceded in death by his son Scott Heming-Goldendale, Father Joseph Heming, Mother Silvia
Heming, Brother Rolin Heming, Sisters Dorthy, Retha, Delma, and Evelyn.

at 12:00 pm. Pete will be laid to rest at Spring Creek Cemetery under the ol' pine tree.
