Obituary of Odella Phylista Iola Haworth

Odella (Phylista) Iola Haworth December 25, 1927 – January 17, 2023 Odella was born on Christmas day in Grangeville, Idaho. Her family struggled during the depression and World War II for much of her growing up years. They settled in Sutherlin, OR where she attended school from elementary through graduation from high school. Odella met John Franklin Haworth (1925-2004) during high school in Sutherlin, fell in love and married him upon his return from World War II in 1946. Odella & John made their home in Eugene, OR where John was a master machinist & welder. Odella was very artistic & creative; she had several businesses she did from home while their son and daughter were growing up. In 1968 they moved to Escondido, CA to build & open a new Fabric Store, and Stretch & Sew business. Odella was a truly gifted seamstress who could create anything from men’s suits to beautiful quilts with or without a pattern. She taught several thousand women in her sewing classes over their years with the store. After selling their store they returned to Eugene, OR for a time, then retired to live next to their daughter and her family in Buckley, WA in 1995. She lived there until 2019 when both her son, and her daughter & son-in-law purchased homes and moved to Lyle, WA. She lived with her son Steve for the next 3 ½ years of her life on the High Prairie above Lyle, WA until she had to enter hospice care. Steve was a gift to her during these years, dedicated to giving her loving and excellent care, and she was content and happy there enjoying the beautiful views and wildlife. Odella passed peacefully on January 17, 2023 at the age of 95 in the care of Peace Health Hospice. Her family wishes to thank Peace Health, her RN Corey, and also Care n Love Adult Family Home II, and manager Gemma for the excellent & loving care she received during the final month of her life. A celebration and remembrance of Odella’s life will be shared by her family this spring. Odella is survived by her children Steven Haworth and Cheryl Proffitt- Schmidt (David); grandchildren Tyson Haworth (Michelle), Tonya Sanchez (Brian), Taj Meadows (Katheryn), Jessica McPeak (Chris), Quinn Proffitt (Chelsea); and by 8 great-grandchildren.
