Obituary of Eleanor Morris

Eleanor Morris passed away on September 5, 2012 in Hood River. She was born July 16, 1920 in Portland to John and Ida DeWalt. Her parents moved to the White Salmon area in her very early years and her spent her entire life in the Gorge. She met and later married George Morris on February 3, 1945 in white Salmon at the Congregational Church. That union lasted until George's death August 11, 2007. Eleanor was also preceded in death by her only daughter Georgene and brothers Lewis DeWalt, Emmet DeWalt and Allen DeWalt. She is survived by her sons Bruce (Mooreen), Herbert (Gayle), George Jr. (Sandee) and Robert (Penny) and sisters Lorane Cody and Betty Lou (Don) Graves. In addition to her devotion to her family she was an avid gardener and self-taught artist. One of her passions was her beautiful flower gardens that were admired by many. She knew way more about plants than any one person should ever know. She always loved to draw and her pencil portraits of family and friends are in many homes throughout the area and beyond. Wanting to broaden her artistic abilities she took up oil painting--first landscapes of the beautiful gorge area then she did some oil portraits. She was a very talented and determined woman. That determination got her through some of the more difficult times in her life. There will be a graveside service September 15 at 11 a.m. at the White Salmon Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Providence Hospice of the Gorge in Eleanor's name. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Samuels, Jill and the staff at Cherry Street Manor. Gardner Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
