Obituary of Coy Sauls
Coy Josh Sauls was born September 8, 1926 in Midland City, Alabama to Charles H. and Blanchie (Lee) Sauls. He moved to the northwest at the beginning of World War II and worked in the shipyards with some other family members. When an older brother joined the Navy, he decided to join also. Coy served in the Navy until his discharge April 30, 1946. He took advantage of education courses offered by the U.S. government and went to school to become a railroad telegrapher. After he completed the courses he was hired by the S.P.&S. Railroad and worked as a telegrapher. He was promoted to dispatcher and worked in that capacity until his retirement. In 1950, Coy married Joyce Ewing in White Salmon. He was a member of the Dots and Dashes and the Elks Lodge. During his leisure time, Coy liked to do landscaping and work on his house. Mr. Sauls passed away at his home in Lyle on October 12, 2017 at the age of 91. He will be missed by his wife Joyce Sauls; sons and daughters-in-law Steven and Joan Sauls of Dallesport and Alan and Hanh Sauls of Washougal; brother Mitchell Sauls of Pensacola, Florida; sister Connie Martens of Davenport, Iowa; two grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers Arnold, James, Charles and Oscar and sister Vergie. A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Gardner Funeral Home.
