Obituary of Deanna Marberry

White Salmon resident Deanna Marberry, known to friends as Dede, passed away at her home on December 24, 2017 at the age of 77. She was born in Glendale, California on October 27, 1940 to parents Lucille (McKercher) and Cecil Parish. Dede married Benton Marberry on July 29, 1961 in Pasadena, California. She received her teaching credentials from UCLA and worked for the Huntington Beach School District. She later managed a surgeon's office in Portland, Oregon. Dede was extremely involved in the community having served as Past President of Mt. Adams Soroptimists and as a board member of the Skyline Foundation since 2004. She was also a member of the Hood River Garden Club and Immanuel Lutheran Church. Mrs. Marberry volunteered her time to many organizations including the Mt. Adams Chamber of Commerce, Huntington Beach Police Wives' Guild, and was a court-appointed special advocate. She enjoyed travelling and her dogs, but she got the most joy from gardening. Dede will be missed by her husband Benton Marberry of White Salmon; daughter Karen Elings of Beaverton, Oregon; son John Marberry and his wife Lan of Salem, Oregon; grandchildren Kevin Marberry of Salem, Alison Hurst and her husband John of Beaverton and Tyler Elings of Dallas, Texas; and her faithful pal Maggie. She was preceded in death by her sister Kathleen Polifka and her parents. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 305 9th St., Hood River, Oregon with a potluck to follow. Memorial contributions in Dede's name may be given to the Skyline Foundation, PO Box 1625, White Salmon, WA 98672.
