Obituary of Florence Helen Scheel

Florence Helen Scheel, 75, of Carson, WA, died Monday, April 8, 2019, of cancer, at home in Carson, Washington. She was born to Evelyn Askelson and William Moser at her grandparents’ home on October 31, 1943, in La Center, WA.

Florence was a sweet woman, who was always modest. She was beautiful, gracious and a wonderful woman, who touched many hearts with her kind disposition. Although she only achieved an eighth-grade education, she was known to be an intelligent woman, wise beyond her grade level. She always valued family above all else. “Mother of three” was always her best and favorite job.

Florence was raised in Carson and around the gorge area. She loved the beauty of the area and took full advantage of the outdoor activities. She was an experienced horseback rider, competing in rodeos around the area. She shared this love with her children, who also competed in rodeos.

She could bargain and “horse trade” her way into any deal. She was one heck of a negotiator, who didn’t take no for an answer.

Florence loved to go shopping for collectable treasures and antiques with her husband Butch. She was an avid doll collector and vintage glass collector. She also liked to collect Western bronze statues. Her love for horses also brought a large collection of saddles and tack.

She enjoyed going on vacations with her family to Mexico, Central Oregon, the beach, and Las Vegas. Cruises around the Caribbean brought great joy to her and her family.

Giving gifts was Florence’s favorite way of showing her love for others. She was also fond of her two dogs, Bear and Sheppy, and enjoyed animals in general.

Florence worked numerous labor jobs into her sixties. She was a flagger, she worked in packing houses, and worked at Stevenson Co-Ply and WKO Forest Products. She also worked in Union jobs at places like the Hilton in Vancouver. She worked in restaurants when she was young, and that’s how she eventually met Phillip Scheel, (Butch) her lifelong husband and the father of her three children. She supported her husband in his trucking business, which helped to ensure that her children had everything they needed growing up in Carson.

Florence was a good cook and known for her baked beans and macaroni salad. She also made delicious pies that her family and friends enjoyed over the years.

Florence is survived by her loving husband Phillip (Butch) Scheel, her daughter Terri Scheel and son Gene Scheel, grandchildren Eric Scheel, Patrick Scheel, William Scheel, Madeline Rosander Forster (Matthew), and Casey Rosander (Taylor), six great grandchildren, (Coleman, Tucker, Carver, Watson, Wade and Graham), sister Edith Hatfield, and brother Don Moser.

Her first-born son, Dale William Scheel, preceded her in death.
