Obituary of Dorothy Lucille Groves

Dorothy Lucille Groves passed on 7 /11/19 at the age of 101 with family by her side. "Lucille" was born October 24, 1917, in Goldendale Wa to John and Flossie (Letson) Trumbo. Lucille was educated in Goldendale. After graduating high school, she spent time in Portland OR during World War II working in the shipyards on Naval vessels (she spoke of dangling outside their hulls with the Columbia River rushing below her) and on the tail sections of PBY aircraft. She later returned to Goldendale and worked at her father's lumber yard before meeting her husband, Byron Groves. They were married June 1, 1949. They made their first home in Spokane, where their 4 children were born. In 1957, the family moved to Beaverton OR, where Byron worked as a baker, and Lucille took care of the home. She lived there continuously until her recent passing. Lucille cared for and loved her children dearly. They were a great source of pride to her. She was a passionate gardener, wonderful baker (cookies were her forte!), avidly interested in politics and the future of our country, and a great conveyor of stories of Goldendale and her past. She was known to say jealousy and envy were the cause for all the world's problems. She is survived by her children: sons Barry, Gary (Marina), and Jere (Carol); daughter Vicki Truitt; grandchildren Corwin and Angela Truitt, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron. She will be missed, but will be remembered for her favorite saying, "Think happy".
