Obituary of Charlotte James Patlan

Charlotte was born Charlotte Mae “Ruth” Fisher on 3 May 1932 to Earl Fisher and Arthusa “Leona Scarborough” Neiss in Wellman, Iowa. Charlotte went on to graduate high school in Phoenix, Arizona and joined the U.S. Army, where she met and married Antonio Hernandez Patlan on 1 January 1951 in Carrizo Springs, Texas. The marriage lasted 26 years and produced 5 children. Charlotte never remarried. While working and raising her family, Charlotte went on to earn a Masters in teaching at San Diego State University, California. She later earned a degree for nuclear technology. Charlotte worked at San Clemente Nuclear Power in San Clemente, California and Hanford Nuclear Power, Hanford, Washington where she retired after many years. Charlotte was a fun-loving, outgoing person whose laughter could fill a room. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed a good prank once in a while. She would go out of her way to help someone in need, often opening her home as a place to stay. Her hobbies included gardening, traveling, reading, camping and fishing. Her first love was quilting for family and friends. She enjoyed classical music. Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents Earl Fisher and Leona Scarborough; her brothers Duane Jacob Fisher and Marlyan Wade Fisher; two sisters Marlene Grimann and Antoinette Kron. Charlotte is survived by her sister Helen Bickel of West Burlington, Iowa; brother-in-law Lee Grimann of Perry, Iowa; her five children, son Anthony James Patlan (wife Isabelle) of Yakima, Washington; daughter Patricia James Patlan Vassallo (husband John Jr.) of Carson, Washington; son Steven Mark Patlan (Wife Margaret) of San Marcos, California; daughter Simona Marie Patlan Bentley (husband William) of Oceanside, California; and Andrew Wayne Patlan (wife Julie) of San Marcos, California; 21 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 9 great, great grandsons. Charlotte passed away peacefully at home in her sleep with her daughter Patricia at her side on Wednesday, 18 December 2019. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
